While writing your script, allow your imagination to run amok!
Writing your script is just another way of telling a story. The main difference from a novel is that a screenplay doesn't require the same amount or type of description. Basically with a screenplay, you are telling your story through the eye of a camera.
No matter the genre, write your script through your eyes. Search for the same feeling in screenwriting you experience while watching a favorite movie. Couple your passion with imagination and never forget to ask, "what if?"

"What if?" What if the main character changed from male to female or female to male? What if the story moved from the Midwest to either coast? What if your script was time sensitive? The Past? The Future? Answer your "what if" questions. Decide what makes your screenplay better, more marketable?
How you write is how you write best. What makes you more comfortable? Do you like to write late at night or in the morning? Do you write with music in the background? Do you outline? Make a dialogue list? Write in longhand first? Typewriter or computer?
Develope your own techniques. Don't worry about style. Your style grows with each keystroke. Don't try to be someone else or write like someone else. Be you! Write you! Write! You can't write or imagine too often! One of my favorite sayings, "allow your imagination to run amok!"
Of course there are many brands of screenwriting software. I am not here to endorse any particular product. Don't get caught up in the software. Do your research. Then select the one that best fits your needs. Remember you are the writer. The software is only a vehicle to display your efforts. As long as your script fits the industry standard format, you're ok.
Who knows with hard work, determination, and little well placed luck, your script may prove incredibly rewarding, personally and financially. Remember the story concept for writing your script is only the beginning. Lots to do before typing, FADE IN.
