The Law of Divorce was my second production.
Everything was going to be different with The Law of Divorce. I was going to take all the responsibility, then it was going to be made my way. The first big mistake came early.
Although I wanted to enter the genre of Christian filmmaking, I decided to make another action movie with some sexuality. Well hell, everyone knows action and sex sells. So I went into the production not fully behind my choice of scripts.
It didn't take as long to finance as I did one of those credit card movies you hear about all the time. With an investment by my attorney and my excellent credit record, I applied for a few more credit cards and came up with enough to produce the movie. Oh, I forgot to mention, that was another mistake. So if you are counting; two huge mistakes.
So we're financed. Time to move into pre-production. Another mistake was that even though I planned to edit and finish on tape, I stubbornly moved ahead with a 35mm production. What was I thinking? Why not shoot on 16mm or tape? The movie was never going to get any type of theatrical distribution. Duh! Duh! Duh!
Next came production which ran pretty smoothly. To help control costs my screenplay had only a few locations. Mainly we were going to be in a warehouse where I could control the elements. Oh did I mention, most of the acting sucked.
Back to the disclaimer; at best The Law of Divorce is a pretty bad movie. Wish I could say it was better, but again I can't. And as before, wish I could say it didn't make money, it did. Wouldn't be suprised at all that it was still making money under a different title. Sorry to say, it seems that is a common practice for some distributors.
To cut this long, painful, similar story short, we moved into and out of post-production with at best a pretty shitty movie, but suprise, suprise it got distribution. Even made sales at several markets.
Below I have posted a few of the Front Sheets, Sales Sheets that were used by me and distributors. Please note the title changes.
Gee even with sales from those classy Front Sheets, the Distributor didn't pay anything. I caught him lying and stealing. I started legal proceedings. He filed for bankruptcy. Like before, I had to fight like hell to get my masters returned.
Right now as I write this I become frustrated and quite frankly pissed at myself again. I didn't make the screenplay I wanted. I didn't do the things I planned for the Law of Divorce. I simply didn't trust myself again..!!! Absolutely no excuse..! Sure hope someone is learning something..!
