Write the Script Genre you know or want to know.

Selecting your Script Genre should be one of your easiest tasks. For me, and I have heard it said many times, it is best to write what you know or want to know. What type of movies or characters do you like best?

View Website Video Introduction Below I have listed several different types of genres. Now I don't claim these are the only genres. Also remember that you can combine genres. From high concept to art house movies. As you have heard me say before, it is your story!

Animation, Action/Adventure, Sci/Fi, Horror, Fantasy, Epic, Drama, Comedy, Romance, Western, Family, Thriller/Suspense

Long ago the genre was more clearly defined but now there are a lot of stories that cross genres. Many times it is done with the belief of making a script more marketable. The bigger the audience the bigger the box office revenues.

It is generally easy to see what the studios are leaning toward. Look at their productions. See how different studios are working on or releasing the same types of genres. Basically what is hot at the time.

Be careful not to get caught up in writing the current hot genre. They tend to run in cycles. So, back to writing what you know or want to know. Have fun. No matter what genre you select, look forward to your next day of writing. Filling in the many, many ever changing blanks between FADE IN and FADE OUT.
