Every screenwriter should be able to answer some personal Screenwriting Questions before they type FADE IN. Mainly, why am I writing this story? Am I writing it for myself? Do I believe my writing and this screenplay are good enough to sell?
Who is my audience and why do I think so? Hell, what is screenwriting anyway? I mean, I didn't go to film school. I really don't have any formal training or education. I only know the basic screenwriting fundamentals and most of what I learned is from screenwriting websites. Writing a screenplay is lonely work. Even if it's good, more than likely there will be lots of rejection.

Without question the passion for writing or telling your story can push you through the long hours of screenwriting but more questions must be answered. Many screenwriters get to FADE IN and soon reach FADE OUT.
I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but being realistic about the business of screenwriting can help answer some Screenwriting Questions. Another big one, how badly do you want to do this?
Have you done your research on how many screenplays are registered with the Screen Writers Guild or any other agencies accepting scripts for registration? Do more research. Find the number of screenplays registered. Then find the average number of movies produced each year. What are the odds of your screenplay being purchased and then produced?
So I guess another question is, what are you willing to sacrifice knowing the odds are against you? Let's say you actually write an one hundred page properly formatted screenplay. You made it from FADE IN to FADE OUT. HALLELUJAH!!
Now what? Heck if you weren't able to attend a film school or haven't yet attended screenwriting classes or seminars, what do you do? Guess you have to learn how to market your screenplay or find a way to produce it yourself. Wow, the questions just don't stop.
Speaking from that exact scenario, if you are passionate about movies? Telling your story through the eye of a camera that you don't even know how to work. You just keep it simple. Now back to my first question, why am I writing this story?
Because you can't find a reason not to...! Because you can answer every question with a belief in your story. In yourself...! A belief you will figure things out. Find the right answers. Even if you aren't a success, and believe me I am far from it, you can find answers to your personal Screenwriting Questions.
