Different Media sales equals a greater opportunity for success

Basically there are two types of Media sales. The first being theatrical and the second non-theatrical. Of course everyone wants a theatrical release, but it's not always necessary to realize a successful distribution.

A theatrical release is defined by having a movie shown at the theatres. It doesn't require a wide release. It can be a limited release geared towards a particular audience.

A non-theatrical release is everything other than theatrical. It mainly pertains to; network tv, pay tv, vhs & dvd rental and purchase, vod (video on demand), and the new ever growing internet market.

The growth of the internet market is easily seen in how the industry unions now want internet distribution and sales put into their labor agreements.

I am not picking sides or making any type of labor statement. It's just part of the business of filmmaking, and everyone wants what they believe is their fair share of the pie.

As I will discuss later, the internet market is not only for distributors but also producers. Many producers don't even seek a distributor. They would rather do it themselves and have complete control. I heard one small producer say, they would rather have full control with 100% of much smaller sales than no control and no idea of any sales.
